The reason you got PHP List installed in the first place was to create 'professional'-looking emails and newsletters to send out to your website's homies.
Yet, you're stuck trying to use PHP to put your emails together, writing HTML from scatch and bitching about how the built in WYSIWYG editor isn't getting it quite right. The 'Templates' link on the admin menu leads to more irritation. 'WTF!!' FRUSTRATION ENSUES.
SOLUTION:
Use a free template from the internet (or an email that you've already received) for your emails.
HOW - TO GUIDE, Part I: Uploading Your Freebie Template.
1. Use Firefox.
2. Open one tab and type in G o o g l e . c o m. Search for 'Free templates'. TONS of free template websites will come up.
3. Open 2 or 3 of these sites in new tabs, scroll through the site's free templates and pick one, any one. This will be used as a sample template to show you how it works. Pick a simple HTML one, though flash templates also work as well. DOWNLOAD THE TEMPLATE
4. Open up the html file for the selected template, and edit the html in the BODY of the page, and type in [CONTENT]. Remove any text already in the template. SAVE THE FILE.
Email4. Go to the admin section of PHPList. Hit 'Templates' Give the template a name.
5. Instead of using the WYSIWYG editor (don't use the 'Source' option to copy-paste code into the window yet), upload the free template's HTML file. Hit Submit at the bottom and VOILA, your new FREE template should be available for use.
HOW TO, Step 2: PREPARING FOR USE.
1. Test out your new template by sending an email to yourself.
2. You're likely to be familiar with HTML, so if you see anything in the template that you don't like (For example, the pre-assembled footer of the freebie template), customize it by editing the template.
3. Add in the USERID hidden tracking link. It's a Generally Great Idea.
4. Double check that your Template's contact details agree with your own.
5. SEND to your heart's desire!
